DEPRESSION
BY
ANN SULLIVAN

Life has flown away like winters dead leaf. There are no more tears left to drown in. The air is unbreathable and my heart beats faster. If only I could run as fast as my heart beats. If I could stand and not fall. But there is nothing at all to grab hold to; not even hope. I cover my fears with the blanket of sleep only to wake to face them. I scream as loud as I can, but no one hears me. Why can't I move? What's holding me down? Why is the pain paralysing me? The leaf is dead and so am I changing as the leaf.

Hope is fleeing unless there is help! Does anyone care enough to help? What is the use! As time goes, I go with it. My hair turns gray and my body gets fat. Fatter and fatter, sadder and sadder. My strength is gone as slower it moves. As the night falls, no light is found, not even a candle can be lit because there is no fire left and the moon has turned cold to the heart that withers away. Is it time that has stolen my life? It becomes harder to breathe in the pain of despair.

Only Jesus can bring the dead back to life. the Holy Spirit's fire can light the life back into the body. As the worm turns into a butterfly, so can I. Time has no end to eternity. Eternity, hope is here. Yes! It is here. Though the body hurts, the soul brings life back. The tree may look dead. But it is not. Just wait until spring. Where the leaf was you will find fruit. fruit that is sweeter because the flower gave its life so that life can go on. Grow on my soul as the tree may look old, the roots are strong. Life plays tricks on us all. The music may change, but what makes it is still the same. Body and soul. Without the soul there is only noise. It is the soul that makes it music. The music plays on in the minds of those who listen. Does the music move you? Which direction does it take you? The death of despair, or hope in the creator of life? Only Christ Jesus gives everlasting life. All else is fading. Jesus brings one out of darkness to the light of hope for the future. Through it all I have learned to trust in Jesus. Like Peter with water over his head, I take a hold of Jesus' hand that pulls me out of despair.
